This directory tracks thirteen drag strips across Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. Ten are confirmed operating, two are permanently closed, and one has an uncertain future.
What is the closest drag strip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi?
Swamp Bottom Dragstrip in Columbia, about 34 miles away, which opened in September 2026. Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg was closer at about 4 miles but is permanently closed. Gulfport Dragway is about 60 miles away and races Wednesday nights and weekends year-round.

What is a dial-in in bracket racing?
A dial-in is the elapsed time a driver predicts their car will run, declared before a round. The slower car gets a head start equal to the difference between the two dial-ins, so both cars should theoretically reach the finish line together. Running quicker than your dial-in is a breakout and loses the round, so the skill is predicting your own car accurately.
Why does weather affect a drag racing dial-in?
Air density changes how much power an engine makes. Temperature, humidity and barometric pressure combine into density altitude, and a car that runs 12.50 in cool morning air may run 12.65 in hot afternoon air. Racers track density altitude against past runs to predict what the car will do in current conditions.
What is the difference between a quarter-mile and an eighth-mile track?
A quarter-mile track measures 1,320 feet from the starting line to the finish; an eighth-mile measures 660 feet. Many tracks have both, and eighth-mile racing has become more common because it is easier on equipment and needs less shutdown area.
Can you camp or park an RV at drag strips on the Mississippi Gulf Coast?
Most tracks in this region allow some form of overnight pit parking, but very few publish the details — whether hookups are available, what they cost, or whether you need to book. We are collecting this track by track and marking it unconfirmed until we have it direct from the track.
What bracket racing series run on the Mississippi Gulf Coast?
The main ones are BTE King of the Coast, the IHRA Sportsman Series at IHRA member tracks like Gulfport Dragway, and the NHRA Summit Racing E.T. Series at NHRA member tracks like Swamp Bottom Dragstrip. The Southeast Gassers Association also visits the region for its Gulf Coast Nationals.
